103 Lightweight basket running race muzzle- Whippet
These lightweight running/ racing muzzles allow your dog to pant freely due to their depth and open basket design making them the first choice for off lead running and activities such as canicross, bikejor and lure coursing.
The muzzle can be customised with a noseband for dded comfort, these are available in a range of colours and can be permanently fixed with a rivet. Chicago screws are offered as an alternative as allow the noseband to be interchangeable.
However please be aware chicago screws can work loose and need to be tightened periodically.
Please click here to see the noseband colour chart.
The gaps in the 103 measure 1 x2cm maximum making them useful to help prevent scavenging items bigger than this.
A keeper strap or muzzle stop can be used to help keep the muzzles in place and prevent the dog losing them. A minority of dogs may benefit from either the keeper strap or muzzle stop but this is not the norm, we find if the dog is in a well fitted muzzle that allows them to pant then very few will try and remove them, however some dogs may lose a muzzle in undergrowth on walks. .
Designed for whippets we have found they fit many types of dogs, usually terriers, and below are details of how to measure your dog to see if this muzzle will fit, however if you need any help then click here.
Length:Measure the length of your dogs head in a straight line from behind their ear, to the tip of the nose. The muzzles will fit lengthwise if the dog measures between 17- 20cm approx.
Depth:
This is important to make sure your dog can pant freely. Hold a loop of tape over the end of the dogs nose at 26cm to see if they will have enough room to pant. They typically need 4-8cm depth to allow them to pant freely. The measurements below are the measurements of the actual muzzles, and not the size of dog they will fit. To ensure a good fit you need a good panting depth.
Length 18cm
Circumference 26cm
Basket length 8cm
Please note that dogs with a high prey drive or a history of reactivity/aggression towards other dogs may still be able to inflict injuries whilst wearing muzzles especially if they are off lead and not under your close control.
