110 Lightweight Basket Running Race Muzzle
Lightweight running / racing muzzles from the Don Pare range allow your dog to pant freely due to their depth and open basket design making them the first choice for off lead running and activities such as canicross, bikejor and lure coursing.
This style is the lightest and most popular as it allows the dog to pant, drink and take treats. They are made of a rigid nylon so are lightweight, however they can break if they constantly come into contact with objects (e.g rubbed on the ground, undergrowth, toys).
They come without a noseband as standard but can be customised with a noseband in a colour of your choice allowing you to be as adventurous as you like!
A keeper strap or muzzle stop can be used to help keep the muzzles in place and prevent the dog losing them. A minority of dogs may benefit from either the keeper strap or muzzle stop but this is not the norm, we find if the dog is in a well fitted muzzle that allows them to pant then very few will try and remove them, however some dogs may lose a muzzle in undergrowth on walks. .
Designed for sighthounds we have found they fit many types of dogs, and below are details of how to measure your dog to get the correct size, however if you need any help in how to measure or assess what size is needed then click here for help or email us at contact@themuzzleshop.com.
Length:Measure the length of your dogs head in a straight line from behind their ear, to the tip of the nose. The muzzles are available 20cm and 22cm long and also come with an adjustable leather strap. For dogs that measure 18-21cm you need the 20cm muzzle, for dogs that measure 22cm and longer you need the 22cm muzzle.
Depth:
This is important to make sure your dog can pant freely. The circumference of each muzzle size is measured at the end of the basket where the dogs nose will be and are available in 26, 31 and 35cm.Hold a loop of tape at 26cm, 31cm, or 35 cm over the end of the dogs nose to see which size they will need to have enough room to pant, as shown by Riley in the photos above.
You will now know what length and depth to order from the list below. If you need any help then click here.
(The length of the basket part of the muzzle is 9cm in all sizes.)
Size 6- length 22cm / circumference 35cm
Size 5- length 20cm / circumference 35cm
Size 4- length 22cm / circumference 31cm
Size 3- length 20cm / circumference 31cm
Size 2- length 22cm / circumference 26cm
Size 1- length 20cm / circumference 26cm
The head strap will fit a neck of up to approx 15", if this is not long enough then an extension strap may be needed see here.
Please note that dogs with a high prey drive or a history of reactivity/aggression towards other dogs may still be able to inflict injuries whilst wearing muzzles especially if they are off lead and not under your close control.
The colours for the muzzles are mixed by hand and therefore variations in the shades can occur.
